• At the May 9, 2007 HTOCA Board meeting the board approved a resolution opposing any expansion by the Montessori School of Northern Virginia.
MSNV committee reported it had completed a comprehensive door to door canvassing of the community with a Petition stating that signers opposed any expansion of the MSNV within the HTO community. The committee presented the results of the petition to the Board. The Petition was signed by 216 HTO residents and a copy of the petition was given to the secretary for inclusion in the HTOCA records. Full report of the MSNV Committee recommends a resolution by the HTOCA Board opposing any expansion in the neighborhood and that the resolution be transmitted to county officials. HTOCA Resolution
Whereas , the Montessori School of Northern Virginia (MSNV) located in the Hillbrook Tall Oaks community, has expressed plans to further expand its student population by adding additional grades to the enrolled student population of the school;
Whereas , the proposed MSNV expansion will result in a significant further increase in the number of vehicles traveling through the HTOCA neighborhood thereby posing increased traffic and safety problems;
Whereas, the HTOCA membership, by unanimous vote, directed the Board to conduct a survey to determine if HTOCA residents supported the HTOCA expansion;
Whereas a MSNV Committee appointed by the Board conducted a community survey, and as a result, collected 216 signatures on a petition opposing the expansion of the MSNV within the HTOCA community ;
Whereas , the HTOCA Board is charged with the current bylaws to “promote, foster and protect the community known as Hillbrook/Tall Oaks, and to promote cooperative activities and friendly spirit within the community;”
Whereas the MSNV is seriously considering a school site, outside the HTOCA community, to locate the additional grades and additional students;
Therefore, Be It Resolved by the HTOCA Board of Directors, that:
In recognition of the community's concern as expressed by the petition, the HTOCA Board resolves to oppose the further expansion of the MSNV within the existing neighborhood, and:
Hereby petitions the Planning Staff of Fairfax County, VA, the Fairfax County Planning Commission, and Fairfax County Board of Supervisors to reject any applications, measures, or requests to further increase the current student population and/or size of the Montessori School of Northern Virginia (MSNV) at its current location, 6820 Pacific Lane , in Annandale , VA.
